Our History

1859

Dover Gas Light Company, a gas company located in Dover, DE, was founded. Dover Gas Light would eventually become Chesapeake Utilities Corporation.

1947

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation was incorporated in Delaware.

1955

Eastern Shore Natural Gas Company, Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's interstate pipeline, was incorporated in Delaware. ESNG currently transports natural gas from various points in Pennsylvania to customers in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

1981

Sharpgas, Inc., dba Sharp Energy, was formed to consolidate Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's propane distribution operations.

1985

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's common stock began trading on the NASDAQ National Market System as CHPK.

1993

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's common stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange as CPK.

1996

Chesapeake Utilities, the Delaware and Maryland natural gas division of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, establishes the only natural gas fueling station (CNG) on the Delmarva Peninsula.

2009

Completed the acquisition of Florida Public Utilities Company.

2015

2015 Chesapeake Utilities Corporation acquired Gatherco, Inc. in Ohio and created the new subsidiary, Aspire Energy. This acquisition is a direct result of our strategic business development efforts to further our growth by expanding our energy market presence and extending our geographic footprint.

2016

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation rings The Closing Bell ® at the New York Stock Exchange.
